RAS MO AS PERFORMING ARTIST, POET AND MUSICIAN

PUBLICATIONS, RELEASES AND ACTIVITIES

"Mo n' Mo Music" with Ras Mo
at La Pena Cultural Center

La Pena Cultural Center in Berkeley, CA hosted a joyful celebration of Bay Area artist Ras Mo's new CD release, Tjebe (Hold On) on August 15. Tjebe is an eclectic collection of spoken word poetry and instrumental selections seasoned to a fresh modern beat and spiced with the indigenous sounds of Africa. Master Drummer, Ras Mo (aka Delmance Moses) uses a delicate blend of Caribbean Rhythms, Reggae, Dancehall and Hip-Hop to explore and comment on important cultural and social issues. He enlightened and entertained the audience when he performed "I Want a Job" and "Nice it Up" (the latter emphasizes a need to stop violence in the dancehall and is driven by a powerful Reggae beat).

Born in the village of Delices on the Caribbean Island of Dominica, Ras Mo grew up deeply influenced by the music and culture of West Africa, which is strongly evident in his conscious melding of ancient drumming techniques and storytelling. His song,"I Miss You" educates and illuminates, as Ras Mo intelligently transforms his poetry into a musical and visual expression that honestly addresses domestic violence against women and brings to light the honor and love we all gain when we live with respect and love for each other. A beautiful and uplifting performance by a gifted artist!
